The King of Disruption is Baaack!

Om Malik broke the news late Friday night (while I was at a holiday party) that Skype co-founder Niklas Zennstrom is back as CEO of Skype. There has been much speculation that Zennstrom’s return is due in part to a 1.5 Billion performance payout if Skype achieves certain revenues, you have to think the entrepreneur inside of him was the real reason for his return.

Having been raised by an entrepreneur, and being around quite a few my entire life, the one trait they shared between them, is an un-dying love and passion for the businesses they created. Much of the turmoil, lack-luster performance, and vague business direction that had come out of Skype since their purchase by eBay had to have struck a nerve with Zennstrom.

Entrepreneurs, even if they were paid massive sums of money for their business, will always be attached to it, and will therefore always want to see it ran their way (whether they actually are in the position to do so is another question.). This is obviously great news for eBay, Skype, and Skype partners, here hoping this entrepreneur can build the business back up to where we all thought it could be.
